Tracing water back to where it starts
Water rarely shows up where the pipe actually failed. It runs along joists, follows a pipe, soaks into a subfloor, and appears as a stain somewhere else entirely.
That is why leak detection is careful work, not guesswork. We start with what you have noticed: where the stain is, when it gets worse, whether your water bill has changed, whether the meter moves when every fixture is off. From there we narrow it down to a supply line, a drain, a fitting, a valve or a fixture.
The aim is to open as little as possible. Cutting a row of holes in a ceiling hoping to get lucky costs you twice, once for the search and again for the patching. Once we find the source, we repair it properly, and where it makes sense we add a shut-off valve so the next problem can be stopped in seconds instead of soaking a room.
